- Use your address book to create a likely suspect list for e-mail and direct mail:
- Friends,
- Classmates,
- Business associates, and
- Relatives
- E-mail is the most effective tool for individual fundraising. It is quick, directed, to the point and easy to do follow ups.
In your e-mail create a short message about Katie Ride, your goal and how the individuals on your list can help
Plant the seed on what you want them to donate... so much a mile, flat amount for the ride...your choice,but be specific... ask for the donation!
Include the direct donation link to your personal web page on Active.com . They can make a credit card donation on line. - If you direct mail, Michele Daly (2005 & 2006 Top Fundraiser) suggests that you:
- include a short letter explaining the cause,
- ask for a specific donation amount, and
- include a stamped return envelope
- Follow up is the KEY to success:
- send more than one e-mail,
- make a follow up call on your direct mail list,
- keep contributors informed about your progress, and
- remind them about the ride date and the need to make the donation now
Team Fundraising Ideas
- Spaghetti dinner or a special lunch for friends, club or business associates, riders and staff cook and serve
- Indoor golf tournament... for little people or 'big' people
- American Idol...post team member pictures... each vote cast costs $1... have some fun!
- Staff tricycle race... audience wagers on the winner
- Chili cookoff with tasting and votes for a $1
- Coffee break (Gatorade break) with silent auction.
- Weekend car wash at a selected location.
- Bingo tournament sponsored by the team and executed during lunch or a break. Add music and a lively staff member calling numbers.
