    • Explain why you are riding
    • Set a fundraising goal
  3. Use your address book to create a likely suspect list for e-mail and direct mail:
    • Friends,
    • Classmates,
    • Business associates, and
    • Relatives
  4. E-mail is the most effective tool for individual fundraising. It is quick, directed, to the point and easy to do follow ups.

In your e-mail create a short message about Katie Ride, your goal and how the individuals on your list can help

Plant the seed on what you want them to donate... so much a mile, flat amount for the ride...your choice, but be specific... ask for the donation!

Include the direct donation link to your personal web page on Active.com . They can make a credit card donation on line.
  5. If you direct mail, Michele Daly (2005 & 2006 Top Fundraiser) suggests that you:
    • include a short letter explaining the cause,
    • ask for a specific donation amount, and
    • include a stamped return envelope
  6. Follow up is the KEY to success:
    • send more than one e-mail,
    • make a follow up call on your direct mail list,
    • keep contributors informed about your progress, and
    • remind them about the ride date and the need to make the donation now
