Hello, Katie Ride Friends!

Deborah Dunham, Executive DirectorI’m excited and honored to be the new Executive Director for the Katie Ride for Life and to be working with all of you!

I have to give the Katie Ride credit for two major things in my life:

First, after volunteering five years ago at the ride and watching so many wonderful athletes, I was inspired to become a cyclist. Since then, I have expanded my athletic endeavors to include numerous triathlons, and I have joyfully participated in three Katie Rides (the only year I missed was during the Boston Marathon).

Second, and more importantly, this event and this organization motivated me to become an organ donor. Before learning about Katie’s story and the importance of organ donation in saving so many lives, I had never thought much about it. After meeting the Caples and being involved in that first ride, I immediately changed the status on my driver’s license to read ”organ donor”.

It’s often been said that one word or one action can change someone’s life forever. In this case, the Katie Ride for Life and its important mission of educating and inspiring more people to become organ and tissue donors is changing many lives.

I look forward to working with all of you for the upcoming 2011 ride. In the mean time, we are busy working on year-round cycling advocacy programs, organ donor educational programs and expanding the ride to other cities.
